Classic camera found in Resi 5 DLC

Play from the cutaway perspectives.

Yet more amazing internet detectives have uncovered an alternative camera mode for the recently released Lost in Nightmares DLC for Resident Evil 5.

In order to unlock the new camera mode, which frames the action in a similar fashion to the mansion-based originals, all you need to do is talk to the front door a few times until it says "?" instead of the usual investigation prompt (thanks Kotaku).

Lost in Nightmares is out now for PSN and Xbox Live and puts you in control of Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine in a puzzly, extended version of events leading up to one of Resident Evil 5's flashback cut-scenes.

We thought it was amazing, handing down a whopping 9/10 in this week's review.

Lost in Nightmares costs £3.99 / €4.99 on PSN or 400 Microsoft Points (£3.40 / €4.80) on Xbox Live.

Kotaku posted this today, it was the second comment in your review yesterday.

    Amazing addition to the game.

Really? I wasn't going to bother buying it, but I think I'll have it just to see that little piece of awesome.

I'm seeing this a lot these days on EG news.

Hot damn!! Played as Chris and Jill and yet not tried this!!
So that other two playthroughs on tougher difficulty plus classical cameras!

    So sweet!

People are strange. The fixed camera was fecking awful in the original games. A funny extra no doubt but hardly as a positive to the game eh?

This is the first time I want DLC more than a game. Odd.

Shame I'd have to buy 5 for it.

A nice touch which hopefully means 6 will go back to being Resi.

It's not enough to make me replay RE5 though...

Many people cry about RE5 mechanics and it's direction, but fail to realize that this flows with the story. The virus was intended to mutate and make bigger, stronger and faster mutants, not slow lumbering zombies from the first game. RE5 they are on the offensive this time and I assume that the next will continue this along with more relic hunts. Keep the over the shoulder view for weapon based attacks, but move back to a full 3rd person to use melee weapons for times where you need not waste bullets or you just prefer the good old form of hands on ass whipping.

Great, they fixed the camera. Survival horror is nothing without it IMHO :)

Wonder how long this will take to make it to the PC... if ever...

At what point can Kotaku start asking for royalties?

Or are you just telling me I should go there for my news?
  • captain_Carl #15 2 years ago

I tried it with this view but couldn't get chris to go the way i wanted him to do, at all. I gave up after 20 seconds and restarted

After looking at clips of this I ask myself - Did they go to the trouble of pre-rendering the entire mansion for this feature?

The place looks amazing! Makes me want to buy a copy of Re5 just to experience it. I haven't at all liked the way RE went after 3 and Code Veronica - so I always dreamed of a HD version of Classic RE.

If the classic view isn't pre-rendered then maximum respect to the artists. It looks as good!

    @SavageEvi

Oh, so it was supposed to evolve into a linear shooter was it? I don't mind the direction and the story evolution, but i wasn't so keen on A-to-B gameplay based around shooting everything in-between. Resident Evil 4 as a hybrid between the 2 games was probably just about right as the evolution to the series but 5 was a step to far IMO. I have been playing the cube remake of 1 recently and it really is sublime - like a total different game, head and shoulders above 5.

Its fun to try, but the controls are imo awful.
  • patchbox360 #19 2 years ago

games stuck in age old control mechanics should never get 9/10

    Euromeh strikes again

    Sigh. I'm going to have to buy RE5 again aren't I? :/

    @Zuluhero
Indeed, the Remake is the best RE out there thanks to its superlative atmosphere. Fact :).

I liked Resident Evil 5, but the Resident Evil remake still looks stunnong and is great to play! How frustrating that it's stuck on the GameCube and Wii. Best title in the series in my opinion.

"People are strange. The fixed camera was fecking awful in the original games. A funny extra no doubt but hardly as a positive to the game eh?"

Matter of opinion to be honest.

I always found it weird how much people bitched about it. It's like these people don't have the ability to learn at all.

I also agree Remake is the best. By far - pisses all over RE4 and 5 that's for sure (but then so do 2 and 3)

Ironically, the camera was one of the things that put me off the older resi games. Still played them, but always wished for better camera control.
