Watch eight minutes of The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth's co-op mode

Hell is other people.

The Binding of Isaac developer Edmund McMillen has released eight minutes of co-op footage for the upcoming PlayStation port and enhanced PC edition of his horror comedy action-roguelike.

Entitled The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth, this console port was initially going to be a 16-bit demake of the 2011 cult-classic, but McMillen and the folks at Nicalis ultimately decided to go in a different direction with the visuals and kept adding more and more content to this impending edition, with the addition of co-op being one of its most exciting enhancements.

Danielle's trolling of Ed after the four minute mark is just too wonderful.

An interesting thing about Rebirth's co-op is that players need to sacrifice some life in order to bring a friend into the mix, so it won't simply be an easier version of the game with double the manpower. In some ways the second player has the advantage of being able to fly, but player one is the only one who can pick up and use items and they're in control of which rooms the duo enters.

The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth also features all new Challenge Modes where you're limited by specific criteria. For example, Head Trauma mode makes it so instead of shooting powerful tears in one direction, you're surrounded by a thick barrier of hail-like mini-tears that take up a lot of space but deal low damage.

This video also shows off an all new boss: Dingle, a literal piece of s***.

The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth is planned as a free release for PlayStation Plus members on PS4 and Vita. The game still doesn't have a launch window, but McMillen confirmed to Eurogamer today that "it should release before the end of the year," and a release date will be revealed soon.

Last November Nicalis noted that Rebirth would come out first on PS4 with the Vita version to follow a few months later offering cross-platform support on Sony systems.
