Capcom botches Resident Evil: Revelations packaging

UPDATE: First production run will carry the error.

UPDATE: Capcom has confirmed that the game's first US production run will carry the error.

"It has come to our attention that there was a misspelling on the Resident Evil: Revelations packaging," a spokesperson for the publisher told Eurogamer.

"We apologise for the mistake, which will be corrected for subsequent productions of the game. We are working on a solution to provide affected customers with the correct packaging. Please visit Capcom-Unity for updates."

ORIGINAL STORY: Anyone up for a spot of schadenfreude? It seems Capcom has made a right old hash of the Resident Evil: Revelations packaging over in the US.

Images of copies of the game sent out early to members of the US press are doing the rounds on Twitter, with the spine mistakenly reading Resident Evil: Revelaitons.

With the game due in North American stores on 7th February (a week behind Europe), it seems unlikely that Capcom will have time to correct the gaffe in time for launch. We're checking in with the publisher now to find out.

If not, we could have an unintentional collector's edition on our hands.

This isn't the first time Capcom has ballsed up its packaging. Early copies of the Wii re-release of Okami sported IGN watermarks on the cover artwork.

I have a US copy in my hands w/ the same typo. The back of the box also lacks any description of the game modes, though it's hard to confirm if that was intentional.

Clunking great typo makes it past publisher's spellcheck.
This suggests that they actually do spellcheck their stuff - which I find highly unlikely to say the least. After all, that'd be far too expensive compared to a game's overall dev budget. The same goes for localization, obviously.

Anyone remember when Capcom screwed up the Strider 2 packaging as well. It came with 2 discs, one with Strider and one with Strider 2 but the CD labels were printed the wrong way around.

@retr0gamer A friend of mine bought a 3-disc DVD film box set a few years ago, and got it home to find the labels printed wrong.

He took it back to the shop and got it replaced. The new copy had the labels printed not only wrong, but wrong differently to the way they were wrong in the other copy.

Go easy on the Americans we are just as bad, I have seen some terrible mistakes on release of DVD's. First run of Grave of the Fireflies in the uk had on it "Grave of the Firefiles" I have seen others too with descriptions on the back with sentences repeating. To say this is a mistake unique to Americans is insulting to them - Have you read the comments and forums on Eurogamer?

My advice, buy a botched copy if you can and keep it in the original wrapping. Then sell it in like, 50 years. If the game is a success and several new runs are produced, the value of the original release can only increase.

...I'm not talking "retire on the proceeds" kind of money btw, just in case I am ovcer hyping things here
