Play.com reveals Vita launch game prices

Uncharted, 16GB Memory Card RRP £45.

Online shop Play.com has gone live with PlayStation Vita launch game prices and made games available to pre-order.

A variety of RRPs are listed - the highest is £44.99 for Uncharted: Golden Abyss (Play sells it for £40).

On the other end of the scale, Little Deviants and Reality Fighters are £18 (RRP 24.99).

Everybody's Golf and WipEout 2048 are middle tier games, and carry a £34.99 RRP.

Meanwhile, Play.com lists the 16GB PlayStation Vita Memory Card with a RRP of £44.99, but is selling it for £40. The 8GB Memory Card is £28 (RRP £31.99). The 4GB Memory Card is £15 (RRP £17.99). Most Vita games require a Memory Card to play.

The Vita, which launches in the UK on 22nd February 2012, comes in two flavours: Wi-Fi only or Wi-Fi and 3G.

The Wi-Fi only model costs £229.99. The Wi-Fi and 3G model costs £279.99.

It's worth shopping around for your Vita goodies of course. Amazon.co.uk is selling Uncharted: Golden Abyss for £28.37. It has Ridge Racer down for £30.07.

Sony is yet to officially price Vita software.

Does anyone else think of dirty-bottoms when they see the name "Wipeout"?
    No?
    :(

I love the vita and all, and will definitely be getting it. But it is still too pricey for me atm :( You can get a Wii and a ps3 for the price of the 3g model.

It always annoyed me that a memory card wasn't included with the original psp and now it's the same thing with the vita. Just annoying how you can't save a game the moment you get the thing.

I think I'll be waiting until further down the line for this.
  • Razz #5 5 months ago

So for someone like me that's £315. Wipeout, everybody golf, wifi only and 4gb memory card. Jesus. You know, I think I'd rather spend that money on a holiday. I can wait a few months for the price to come down.

Did Sony not learn anything from 3DS launch? I don't care how powerful or amazing your hardware is, paying more than £25-30 for a HAND HELD title is just insane.

Also, once again Sony get away with producing an accessory ostensibly 'sold separately', yet basically required to actually use the device. How many people bought a PS2 and didn't also buy a memory-card at the same time??

  • mastablasta #12 5 months ago

I will get one once either the price drops a lot or the firmware is modified.

No hints on the 32GB cards yet? Guaranteed to be a significant blow to the wallet, but I'm not wasting time with smaller cards.

"Vita games requite a Memory Card to play"

CERTAIN Vita games. Other games save direct to the game card. It's at the developer's discretion.
  • lucky_jim #16 5 months ago

Waaaaay too expensive. Someone should tell Sony to read the economic news in the papers.
  • roz123 #17 5 months ago

I will get a Vita one day, but that day is when its a decent price, third parties have cheap working SD cards, its able to play emulators, its smaller and has some games I want.

I only really want it now because its shiny and has some cool features.

Sony did include a 32meg memory stick with the psp in the UK until the slim launched about a year later.

I'm annoyed that my psp's memory sticks don't work with vita as I must have spent around 50 quid on them during the five years I've had one.

I've now decided to hold off getting a vita now because of the memory and machine prices. I'll wait for the machine to hit the PSP's launch price of 180 quid before acquiring it

my 3DS will keep me entertained till then with resi and luigis mansion 2 on the way soon.

If anyone is wanting resi revelations and the circle pad pro get to zavvi.co.uk as they've got the UK exclusive on it and are selling it for less than 30 pounds!
I wouldn't usually pimp a site but that's £10 cheaper than I though it was going to be so they've made my day :)

    hope i helped

Didn't learn from earlier mistakes Sony? I really wanted to buy a PSP on launch day, until I saw the prices of the games. At the time, Sony expected people to pay €55 for a new game. I bought the PSP a couple of months later anyway, but I only bought one game and bought a second one a year later when it was reasonably priced.

Pricing of the games is going to be key if the Vita is to be succesfull. And right now, it doesn't seem that it will be.
  • simsini #27 5 months ago

Insane pricing. This will struggle big time with games having a £44.99 RRP.
  • Blakester #28 5 months ago

Another nail in the coffin of non-iOS hand-held gaming?

I know the games on Vita will offer a more detailed and potentially absorbing experience than something that costs 69p from the app store, but am I really expected to believe it will give 50x the enjoyment? Of course it won't.
  • SlightlyMagic #29 5 months ago

Got the 16GB card on pre-order from Amazon when they originally priced it at £18 last week. It's not been cancelled yet so hopefully it will come through, since the actual prices are rip offs! I don't think I'll buy the console right on launch, but when the wifi version gets to £200 or if there is a decent bundle at £230 I'll probably go for it. As on other consoles, the games will probably be cheap a month or two after release anyway so no point in worrying too much about the prices for those.
  • -cerberus- #30 5 months ago

I'll wait for the mandatory hardware revision(s), a price drop and better games.
  • Pineapple-Cannibal #31 5 months ago

Yay for overpriced memory cards. Adding hidden costs to the console that most suckers won't realise until after they brought it.
  • Augmentation #32 5 months ago

In Australia the games have been priced (so far) at roughly $70 (or even $80) for the big games, which is over £50. You lucky bastards. (By comparison new release console games cost about £65 here.)
  • rochyroch #33 5 months ago

i can't see the prices dropping that much,
i think Sony have just priced themself's off of a lot of peoples want list.
  • patch #34 5 months ago

@Blakester Sony have released a developers kit for producing Android compatible games for the Vita (and tablets, xperia play etc.), so in theory we could (should?) be seeing Android / IOS style apps some time soon.
  • weebl #35 5 months ago

I don't see what the problem is. Prices are relative to PSP prices at launch and the software prices seem to match that of the consoles for the same content. Why would the Vita Uncharted be worth less than the PS3 version if the content was as rich?

People seem to disregard the fact that they pay over a grand for an iPhone over 1-2 years and if they bought the phone at the outset it would cost over £400.
  • Mr-Brett #36 5 months ago

I thought (hoped) we'd got past propriety memory cards? and paying more than £1 per GB is crazy.
  • karlidog #37 5 months ago

The higher price pays for all the upscaling it has to do to reach the Vita's native res.
  • Keenbean #38 5 months ago

That's a no deal from me. I need a 32GB card really and if they do announce one the price will be frightening. As a PSP and PSPgo owner I've already got about 30GB worth of games I can download from the PSN store. Fair enough I won't redownload all of it but things like FFVIII, FFIX clock in about 2GB each and some of the PSP games are over 1.5GB each. I hate to think how large AAA Vita games will be.
  • Vanmunt #39 5 months ago

Goodwork, picking Play for price guide, notoriously expensive for games....... haven't the government also tightened up the tax loop hole as well.

I really like eurogamer but these constant negative articles are starting to grate a little.
  • kingpin3000 #40 5 months ago

Why is it that every time I learn more about the vita I become less interested. If they had sold it at the RRP with 8GB of memory and the games cost between £10-£30 RRP then I'd be buying it on day one. Come on Sony, how do you expect to remain viable in the handheld market like this?
  • simsini #41 5 months ago

Uncharted is listed for $39.99 on Gamestop.com and PS3 games are $59.99. If Vita games are $20.00 less over in the USA, why is the RRP only £5 less over here in the UK?

We are getting shafted, simple as that.
  • makeamazing #42 5 months ago

Did people not actually read the whole article? Yes some of the games are being sold quite high, but if you shop around, you can get them alot cheaper... how is that different from any other game/product.

£28 for UC: GA... ok its only a few pounds more expensive than i would have hoped (£25) but as its meant to be 8 hours long... i dont think thats too bad for entertainment.

RRP doesnt mean jack... doesnt anyone remember the COD RRP... no one paid that... Memory cars on the other hand, that is expensive.
  • arcam #43 5 months ago

@simsini Uncharted is also listed at £28.37 on Amazon UK.

I don't know why everyone's getting hung up on RRP prices, that's not what most people will be paying.

I haven't seen anything for Vita that makes it a must buy for me, so I think I'll wait a while this time.
  • kangarootoo #48 5 months ago

    @kinky_mong

"And people complained about the 3DS launch price!"

I thought that was just because the 3DS was just essentially a DS that made people feel unwell ;)
  • GamesConnoisseur #49 5 months ago

Dying to get Vita but steep, memory card IS a must and so £229.99 wifi only IS dead in the water without one!

8gb is a minimum I would say so, for transferring a handful of PSP games, larger library like mine and backdate of PSN purchases.

So we are already talking about £269.99 for 16 gb (though 32 gb seem more realistic for me) without a single game.

So deciding to wait till prices come down, a rarity for me not to get at launch, PSPGo I ignored completely but already got PSPs by then. This is next gen and an important development in portable gaming, so will just have to be contend with 3DS and iOS for few months longer..

    😡
  • Lexx87 #50 5 months ago

  • Lord_Gremlin #51 5 months ago

I think the actual plan at Sony for Vita is to make it fail deliberately. I think this is some kind of clever plot, but not sure what's the catch.
  • flattie #52 5 months ago

Amazon have Uncharted down for £29 pre-order, with Little Deviants down at £21. Seems reasonable.

In all honesty though, I'd happily pay higher if the production values and scope of development match. People talk about prices being obscene for a portable title, but we're talking about a different technological level of portable game here...this isn't Tetris or Phoenix Wright. Although making the price exceed that of a PS3/360 blockbuster is a bit daft, I fully support the idea of a sliding scale, where titles such as Uncharted should be able to demand more money for the clear and obvious increased investment through resources and time.

It's ridiculous that we sit here and expect projects to be delivered to us for peanuts after years of investment and effort.
  • Dizzy #53 5 months ago

    Bend over please.
  • irrelevanthuman #54 5 months ago

I can't see many people forking out for this at that price point, especially given the nervous economic position that many people find themselves in. Uncharted is the only game that would tempt me to adopt early, but even then, coming so close after no.3, there is no urgency.
  • flattie #55 5 months ago

    @Dizzy I'm sure I'd barely notice.
  • simsini #56 5 months ago

Ok, let's discount RRP and look at cheapest prices when games have launched.

US - $59.99 Uncharted for PS3, $39.99 Uncharted for Vita.
UK - £32.99 Uncharted for PS3, £28.37 Uncharted for Vita.

Why is one $20 different and the other only £4.62 different? Looking at the RRP or not, we are still being shafted.

  • JumpinJackFlash #57 5 months ago

Fuck that for a carry-on, £40 a game, £40 for a memory card. Sony can kiss the casual market they crave for goodbye.

The PSV will tank with prices like that...
  • Rodster #58 5 months ago

Sony is approaching the Vita as if iOS and Android devices don't exist, pretty stupid. I have the money to buy the Vita but it's ridiculously priced as well as their games.
  • fongy #59 5 months ago

I always thought PSP were overpriced...
    3DS games are definitely overpriced...
    BUT
I have to say £20 - £30 (give the games 1 month release and they'll halve in price) for the QUALITY of these games, is actually worth it..
PSP lacked graphical oomph - all the DSs look like you're playing a C64 (nothing wrong with that, but I have a PSP emulator for that)
But these are nearing next-gen graphics, and hopefully next-gen game size...
Imagine playing something like Dark Souls on a handheld...
And then compare that experience to infinity blade...
    No contest...
I think if they can move away from re-releases and re-hashes and start filling in the gaps with franchises (like Resistance and Uncharted) - then there's a perfect market here for these games and these prices...
And the crossover ability with playing on PS3 is also a plus!
    :)
Speaking of which, many here will have PS+ - I do, and I've downloaded truckloads of minis and PS1 games, even some PSPs games that I've barely played...
To be able to put these all on one handheld will be great fun...

If you think it's too expensive, stick with a PSP... or don't bother, just don't whine about it... otherwise... welcome to the future!!
    :)
  • daniel8157 #60 5 months ago

    Amazon
    Ridge Racer £30.07
    Uncharted £28.37
    Wipeout £28.37
    Modnation £28.37
    Reality Fighters £20.60

Im thinking the play prices are just an initial price to put them on the site before seeing what everyone is going to sell them at. I highly doubt they will be listed at this price for long.

    Everybody's Golf!! Yay!
  • spielorg #62 5 months ago

I'm sorry but this is the UK. Seriously when's the last time anyone has actually paid MAX RRP for games or are we conveniently forgetting that most games we buy day 1 for £30-39something are actually £50-55. Sure play can overprice it for now but we'll see it dropping fast thanks to competition (Despite the whole channel island thing from next year).
Based on that the cheapest slot will probably end up getting Move prices and hit sub 15 on release dropping to under 10 quid in a few weeks to months. the 35 quid ones easily to 22.99 and then 17.99 and the 45 quid ones to 29.99 and then 22.99.

I mean really this is the market out here. Take a look at game prices all around you? Do you really think it'll change anytime soon (until all the retailers go kaput that is)?

Also day 1 prices are probably paid by a handful and only for specific titles, I'm pretty sure our prices will stay high because of the quick depreciation of game prices in the UK. A 6 month old game that you probably paid close to £40 for usually drops to a quarter of it's value almost that trading in is useless by then. (With the exception of a few games this is how it is, even Nintendo whose games never dropped prices in the past now sees titles dropping in price a lot quicker).
  • Seabeast #63 5 months ago

I do want one, but I refuse to pay those kind of prices for a handheld. Will purchase once the price drops.

Don't see the point, full stop. If I want console-quality gaming, i'll plag on my console. When I've got an hour to kill at work, my iPhone fits in my pocket and offers dirt-cheap instant fix gaming, as well as some amazing Cave shooters. This, I just dont get it. Someone remarked above how ace it would be to be playing Dark Souls on the Vita. Why? Until these devices allow me to play the same games, and the same saves that Im playing at home I'm bot interested. There are already too few hours in the day.
  • Quak #66 5 months ago

    > I love the vita and all, and will definitely be getting it. But it is still too pricey for me atm :( You can get a Wii and a ps3 for the price of the 3g model.

  • Rodster #67 5 months ago

To those that say we shouldn't complain about the PS Vita. If I didn't have a choice for portable gaming as in iOS or Android that don't require a memory card or i'm not required to pay $40 for a game then I would buy the PS Vita in a heartbeat. This not 2005 it's 2011 and it'll be 2012 when the Vita shows up in the UK and in the States. I'm perfectly fine paying for 10c games on my iOS and Android devices that I can do so much more than play games. The web experience is and will be much better on iOS and Android than it will on the Vita.

So we should complain and if you want to buy it, go right ahead I won't get in your way.

But keep this in mind that while the Vita games look nice right now, the iOS and Android devices will come out with more powerful hardware every 6-8 months. So in a pretty short time the graphics on iOS and Android will look better than that on the Vita.

Infinity Blade II looks great on iOS, imagine what it will look like with even better hardware in 2 years time. The last thing is that developers are skeptical of the Sony and Nintendo ecosystem as they have a much more viable and profitable model on iOS and Android.

I'm not hating on the Vita, just putting it in perspective because this isn't 2005 when there was no such thing as the iPhone, iPad or Android.
  • Lord_Gremlin #68 5 months ago

@Quak: Your point could be valid, however there is 1 "but": PS3 is more powerful then Vita and has better looking games.
So, pay more to play stuff on smaller screen with worse overall graphics... Hm. Myself, I will more likely buy a second PS3 (Slim).
  • Widge #69 5 months ago

@Rodster have a read of the gta3 review. This is why people want to play things on something like a vita.
  • Moonprince #70 5 months ago

Pricing model is wrong. Missed a beat there. It'll kill the system in the end...
  • Rodster #71 5 months ago

@Widge Your argument is flawed because it's a 10 year old game that was shoehorned to fit the iOS and Android devices. A better example is a game that was designed from the ground up for iOS and Android that cost under $5.

Again i'm not saying the Vita is a bad device, it just cost too much including all the peripheral stuff you need including the games.

Like I said developers are moving away from the Sony and Nintendo portable handheld model because of the profitability of iOS and Android.
  • Rodster #72 5 months ago

@Moonprince Sadly I think it will be a niche product because of iOS and Android. It will probably do better than the PSP Go but Sony needs better results than that.
  • el_pollo_diablo #73 5 months ago

  • Edz72 #74 5 months ago

Personally I think the vita price is excellent, and have no problem paying £270 for the console and a 16gb memory card. I'm typing this on my £480 iPad2 and don't regret paying for that, so the vita will come in virtually half the price and do virtually everything the iPad does but with the advantage of playing decent games offline and online.

In my eyes it's a bargain.....

@Rodster I totally agree funnily, the iOS games designed from the ground up are fantastic on the device. My classic is flight control iOS = good, flight control Move = poo.

But sometimes I really want that multibutton console experience on the go, and that's why I want the vita. Also I like the budget and gloss afforded to these higher cost games. Things like Galaxy on Fire are alright but it feels way behind on the full breadth of quality we are used to.
  • DrManhattan_1972 #78 5 months ago

Well Sony have priced me out. I will not spend that on a hand held.
  • dadrester #79 5 months ago

Sony really ought to hurry up with announcements about PlayStation Suite. I think pricing of between £10 and £40 for the first party stuff is pretty reasonable given the scope and quality of the games they're offering, however they ARE now competing with the likes of Apple and Google, and the longer they wait to get the ball rolling with PS Suite the less impact it's going to have on the platform.

Point is, PS suite is the place that self funded, self published titles that do well enough on iOS to deserve ports, will be heading, as well as of course games built specifically for the platform. I'm guessing Sony will have a similar pricing and sales percentage strategy for it as apple does with the app store.

@weebl You know what, not being a smart phone owner and baulking at the cost of iPhone contracts (even the oldest models) I'd never thought of that - you're right, it's a ridiculous investment really...

Android phones on the other hand, are probably still comparitive in value as their makers seem to subsidise them, unlike Apple.
  • dadrester #82 5 months ago

  • NHDavid #83 5 months ago

If you download the games aren't they cheaper???? I've heard by %20 percent or something like that..........
  • dadrester #84 5 months ago

Android phones on the other hand, are probably still comparitive in value as their makers seem to subsidise them, unlike Apple.
You can get an android handset for under a hundred without contract now. If you want an iphone the cheapest you'll find is £300 and that's locked to a provider. Buying one outright will set you back around £450 (again for the 3GS).

An ipod touch, of course, could cost you as little as £150 new, but if you're willing to shell that amount out for a gaming device without the phone functions then you're likely just as happy to pay the Vita hardware prices.

[edit] by the way, I'm an iphone user but I can't stand playing games on it that try and use traditional control methods.

I wonder how many dollars those games will cost. As a european customer, I've been disgusted with the year long "equalization" of EUROS and DOLLARS concerning game prices. We payed 55-60 euro per game (new retail price), they payed 55-60 dollar. Go and check the real conversion rate between euro and dollar and you'll see what I mean. Getting tired of paying more here to keep things cheap(er) on the other side of the ocean.

Sony's peripherals have always been exorbantly overpriced, whether it's a replacement keyboard for a Vaio computer, a camcorder battery or memory stick for this thing.

People aren't daft and at the moment most people are skint. Why don't they go for lost cost / massive volume for once in a while to get this thing off the ground?

Re the pricing of handheld games, the Iphone / Android generation aren't going to want to pay £40 for handheld gaming when there is masses of low cost entertainment to be had for a few quid on those systems.

Someone in Sony sales / marketing department needs a good kick into reality.
  • Collymilad #88 5 months ago

    Lol.

It's funny how people bitch about having to pay a decent price for what is practically a portable PS3. The memory cards are a rip off but then what's new?

And anyone who thinks Sony are going after the iphone/casual market with this thing is a ****ing idiot.
  • polaris70 #89 5 months ago

This is why I've never got into portable gaming, the Vita looks amazing but the games just cost too much. I don't think any game on portable should break the £20 barrier, especially with competition from ios and android. Each to their own I suppose, but if portable games cost somewhere between £10-£20 then I'd buy one. £45 is just taking the piss.

It always annoyed me that a memory card wasn't included with the original psp and now it's the same thing with the vita. Just annoying how you can't save a game the moment you get the thing."

It actually did. 32mb card was included with the launch model.
  • dadrester #92 5 months ago

You know what! Sony should sell a "vita+". It retails at a grand or something but allows you to download any games you like off the store for free, for the lifetime of the console. Put in a monthly payment system on a 2 or 3 year contract and that'd shut the 69p brigade up.
  • DisneyJon #93 5 months ago

This is going to flop so badly it will be painful. They learnt nothing from Nintendo, who have persisted with Q1/Q2 releases for the last three years with the Dsi, XL and 3DS, but now Sony is going to run into possibly one of the worst economic climates of the last 20 years combined with the fact they will be launching the handheld at a price point above every other console on the market including their own PS3.

Games wise, its a crap line up with nothing of note - Ridge Racer has a pitiful amount of content and Uncharted cannot delivery the same amount of content at the quality of UC3, yet will be more expensive. Combine that with overpriced memory cards, a restrictive online system....... PSP Go mark 2.

I'm now highly likely not to bother with this until prices for the Vita and games have dropped. I just don't think I'll get value.

I agree with those saying the iOS games are now offering more value which is making them more competitive. I struggle to see the extra value in a game like Motorstorm or Ridge racer at £25 than in Real Racing 2 at £6, it just doesn't add up.

I even get a lot, hours, of value from games that cost 69p. Piczle Lines and Bedazzled for example have kept me busy for ages, as long as games on the PS3 for £40, but the PS3 offers I very different experience, which I'm not sure the vita does.

The only thing I would say is that I don't think you can put down the vita because iOS devices will develop year on year. Compared to the iPad price the vita is relatively competitive, and to keep pace with the iOS games you'll need to update regularly. This is less likely with the vita.
  • polaris70 #96 5 months ago

    @Ed_Zeppelin
Yeah I tend to agree with a lot of what you say. I think it comes down to what people consider as portable gaming. For me it's easy pick up and play for a few minutes then put down again. Like puzzle games or crossword games or a few sports games. If I want a full on AAA experience I'll buy for my console. Being honest I really do not know where the market is for dedicated gaming handhelds. It obviously exists looking at DS sales and PSP but I can't see it, I don't know who buys them.

@Widge I totally agree funnily, the iOS games designed from the ground up are fantastic on the device. My classic is flight control iOS = good, flight control Move = poo.

See there you go and yes Flight Control is addictive and very fun. And I purchased Flight Control for 10c during Google's recent 10 billion app celebration. :D

This is what Sony now has to consider when selling and marketing the Vita.
  • polaris70 #98 5 months ago

    @JAGUARCD32x
I'm not sure that's relevant unless Sony and Microsoft pay for our healthcare. Maybe we'll get it in the next dashboard update ;P
  • weebl #99 5 months ago

All Apple need to do is add a dpad + buttons, along with a second battery to plug into an iPod or iPhone and they can win the market. Offline games can be small enough to fit on 32Gb and if they bought OnLive you could stream PS3 quality games to it over WiFi. Digital content you pay to stream is the way it's going anyway...

    Simple.
  • geox30 #100 5 months ago

So,for me that's Vita one day,not day one..
  • Lunatic4ever #101 5 months ago

Look, I'm not an owner of a ps3 and I missed out on quite a few really nice games so far (Uncharted 3 included) and and I always was sad about not being able to afford both consoles. Now I was looking forward to the psp BUT THIS PRICE...I could easily buy a ps3 and one or two really good games for that price. And it has greater graphics and really awesome games. Cuz I wasn't going to buy the vita solely because its portable but because its innovative games and so on...well...this will have to wait then
  • manic_mouse #102 5 months ago

    @kinky_mong

Didn't the 3DS launch at around the same price? For vastly inferior hardware and with virtually no games?
  • riseer #103 5 months ago

@stuarty_2003 I agree thats way to much for a portable game Gta3 is old so it shouldn't cost much..
  • ballshock #104 5 months ago

yes the games are overpriced, they always are at the LAUNCH of a new console, handheld or not.
theres always "fanboys" that will pay top price to get it on release day.
in a few months there will be a massive price drop. no doubt.
  • Subject91 #105 5 months ago

I don't like the price but if that's what it costs to have physical buttons for my portable games (and ensure quality games) I can't complain.
Sort of sick of the quality of iphone games there's only so long I can play Angry Birds, cut the rope or PVZ on the go without getting bored after a minute max...
  • BellyFullOfHell #106 5 months ago

    @Collymilad
Nobody with half a brain does think that Sony are going after the casual market. What they are doing is acting as though the smartphone/iOs markets have never happened, and it's going to bite them on the arse. IOS games are getting better all the time, and anyone that's had a touch screen for more than six months is over the whole 'touch controls don't work' thing, because it's simply untrue. BAD touchscreen controls don't work, same as any other input method. Take, say, Cave. 45 quid for a PSV game, 20 quid for 360 version, or 2.99 for iPod Mushihemasama? They're going to have a tough time selling that.
  • Mister-Wario #107 5 months ago

Price is the one big bugbear I have with portable titles. I just can't think of many games I want to pay that much for. £25 is probably my limit. Not that it matters in many cases: it takes me so long to get round to the games I want they've dropped in price pretty dramatically. I got Birth by Sleep new for something like £18 about a month or so after it released. It lasted a while- not ages, compared to the other games in the series, but still great value for money. Similiar case with LocoRoco 2: payed £20 and got plenty of use out of it.
  • JamieR #108 5 months ago

The price is alot compard to the ps3 but it is new after all and the ps3 has been out a while now. I might get one for uncharted will have to see.
  • Mister-Wario #109 5 months ago

@Lunatic4ever But, presumably you had a 360? And that has both a lot of overlap and quite a few exclusives on BLA doesn't it? So it's not like you missed EVERYthing. :)
  • trebellk #110 5 months ago

That's very high for a handheld. Blimey.

One for the core fans only. But then launches are to be fair.

Seems a tad risky though though this time as we head into a period of recession many are saying could be as bad or worse than the great depression.

  • geox30 #111 5 months ago

250€ for the console seems a fair price for the tech, but if you add the cost for 1-2 games and a memory card, the total is skyrocketing. If it was 250€ with memory card included(or a memory card with the microsd prices)and up to 40€ for games, that would be acceptable.
  • trebellk #112 5 months ago

  • ParamedicFoetus #114 5 months ago

A quick look at play and you'll see it lists the RRP prices for pretty much any ps3 title at £50.00 when you'll not find anywhere selling them for much over £40.00.
    http://www.play.com/Games/PlayStation3/-/3724/2991/3-/Refine.html
    £45.00 RRP means nothing.

So Best Buy are going and HMV and Game are struggling....

Good stores with lots of choice but just too expensive. See the link here?
  • Dr_Salvador84 #116 5 months ago

Awh gutted, I really wanted this day one, but I just can't justify this kind of price. Maybe I'll pick up the next iteration of the 3DS instead.
  • Stuz359 #117 5 months ago

As a kid I remember going out and paying £70 for SF2Turbo on the SNES. It's actually remarkable over the years how game prices have stayed so low.

Weirdly though, I read a few comments about how they would never pay full price for a hand held game which seems strange to me. A game is a game, the value is surely in the experience you get from it, not the system it is released on. For example, I remember being totally disappointed with COD4 as the single player campaign took less than 5 hours to complete, however, the recent Super Mario 3D Land has a much more substabtial single player game and so surely is better value?
  • SpaceMonkey77 #118 5 months ago

I think Spielorg is on the right track.

RRP means nothing for games these days, as its so competitive that high street and online stores will battle for our money.

Case to point. The reason I enjoy my 360 more these days is because the game prices drop hard, two to three month after release of a game. As a result I have more 360 games than any other console I own.

I think PSVita will get into this kind of groove too. Us gamers are a net savvy bunch and will shop around for the best deal. Amazon is looking like the place to shop for PSVita games, IMO. I think all PSVita games should be £20-25 to be honest. And if enough of us think this way, it'll happen in time.

As for the memory cards, sure, Sony are experts at manipulating them as a needed item, but I say to all of you, just start off with say an 8gb first. That's big enough to hand Vita saves, and maybe give you a PSN game or two on it. Given time prices will drop, and when they do, buy a larger second card.

So yeah, I'm still buying a Vita, but I just won't be getting many games day one (may opt for Uncharted, like many). I still have a 360 and PS3 to feed after all.
  • Turfschipper #119 5 months ago

Asus transformer prime: here i come !!

The vita should be used at scholes to learn children how to not put a fantastic new device on the marcet.
  • KopparbergDave #120 5 months ago

I truly hope Sony let phone style 'app' games blossom on the PSV, and not squash them down and force game makers to only publish directly through Sony and bump up the prices to what Sony are used to. If they let the app ecosystem thrive for smaller and vastly cheaper games it will force the bigger publishers selling their full size games on memory cards to really think long and hard about their pricing. There's many truly great touch control games on iOS or Android built specifically. Sometimes the touch screen controls are great, other times you need physical buttons. PSV can do both and I hope developers really make the most of that. Sadly I guess Sony will control what exactly what is available and have a hand in the pricing, but as much as physical controls and a bigger screen are great iOS gaming can not be dismissed as it is by so many. There's more to it than just Angry Birds and indeed there is more to it than just gaming, some great music creation apps and so on where a touch interface is exactly what you need. I hope we see lots of things like this on PSV too.
  • Marshall2008 #121 5 months ago

40 quid. No chance, don't pay that for any ps3 or Xbox titles these days. Going to hold off till the price drops.
  • jamesi #122 5 months ago

£30+ for a portable game is actually insane.a similar game on ios to motorstorm vita is 69p!!sony don't realize that the market/economy has changed dramatically since the original psp (which i loved)also its all the same games and i dont see anything that really makes me want a vita my ipod is good enough for portable games!
  • super_monty #123 5 months ago

I can buy a 16gb SD card for about £15, yet there is fook all with yet another expensive Sony handheld.

The more I look at the Vita the more it looks like my next hand held will be a dsi, even if it was around the £170 mark.
  • super_monty #124 5 months ago

  • Daeltaja #125 5 months ago

Here we go.. these prices are the reason Vita will fail.

It's only logic - high development costs for a title like Uncharted, they won't be able to recoup that as the RRP is simply too high. This is also the reason why third party devs will shy away from Vita development.

I'm way more interested in the mini-market, but then I couldn't justify the asking price just for that. If I want console quality games, I'll play them on my home consoles. I'm not convinced that titles like Uncharted can be enjoyed in short bursts on the move.

It all looks very attractive and it's been marketed well, but the memory card costs and now the game RRPs are simply putting me off.
  • crisotunity #126 5 months ago

So, price of entry for the full-fat 3G, Golf, Wipout and 16GB card is hovering just under 400.

    Which places this product:
    - in the same bracket as a nice little holiday (someone else has already made the comparison).
    - at £110 more than a refurb 64GB ipod touch
    - £80 more than a refurb ipad (Apple refurb, 1st gen, 3G, 32GB = 320).
    - at just over twice the price I paid for a 3ds with SM Land and SM Kart.

Meanwhile, Europe (Sony's most "faithful" foreign region) is in the middle of the worst crisis since the 1930s.

I'm looking forward to artificially constrained supply (just look at these sad queues in Japan) and press releases about "units shipped" and how Vita is the "fastest selling system in the history of retail*.

(*"units sold between 11:00-15:00 on a Wednesday";).

"Sony is yet to officially price Vita software"

since when does anyone go to GAME because they're cheap!!!

    'amazon selling uncharted for £28'
    probably all the supermarkets too.

If people stopped buying things form stuipidly priced retail/online stores, everyone will drop their prices soon enough.

What's was the pricing like on release in japan?
  • -Mew- #128 5 months ago

Note vita games on psn 60% of RRP
  • Demon2330 #129 5 months ago

I really dont think this is going to do aswell in europe and the uk the euro zone is a complete mess no one has any money over there.

the 3DS is better priced now and it is inside the reach of most and then now a pokemon 3DS is believed to be in the works get that right and 3DS's will fly off the shelves.

  • Ryze #131 5 months ago

I'm not paying that price for a games-only portable device I'm afraid. I'd sooner put it towards a smartphone, and sacrifice the gaming as an adult.

Sorry! Make a smartphone version, and a tablet version, and I'll buy one of those instead of an iPhone/iPad if you pull it off correctly.

    Go on...
