King of Fighters 13 netcode patch in the works

Xbox 360 demo out now. PS3 demo next week.

SNK Playmore is working on a patch for fighting game King of Fighters 13 designed to improve online play.

Publisher Atlus said information around what the netcode patch does, as well as a release date, will be released as soon as possible.

Gamers have complained about King of Fighters 13's online play, which for many is crippled by lag and disconnections.

"While we are seeing a growth in KOF play in local communities, most players both want and need to be able to play the game as flawlessly as possible online in order to build up their skills and confidence so they can participate in tournaments and expand the game's lifespan," read an open letter to Atlus and SNK from King of Fighters community site Dream Cancel published earlier this month.

Meanwhile, a demo for the game has been released on Xbox Live Marketplace (initially for Gold members). It includes two teams: Team K' (K', Kula, Maxima) and Team Fatal Fury (Terry, Andy, Joe), and two stages (London, Airship). The demo, which launches on PlayStation Network on 13th December, features online play.

No excuse for dodgy netcode in a fighting game. That said, this is on my 'to buy' list once the price drops, as is Rayman Origins. Too many good games, too little time.

Good on you SNK for releasing a demo. I bought 12, played it twice or thrice and haven't touched it since. Thought it was time to let the KoF franchise rest after that failure of a game. Wasn't going to touch 13 out of principle, but I'll give the demo a shot.

Hah. Maybe the netcode can finally make it to "Good" netcode. That will be a first for SNK

Mind you, I'm ridiculously surprised the Eurogamer peanut gallery isn't all over this game for having on disc DLC characters. Guess it only counts if it's Capcom then.

Impressive, I want more preople to experience this little beaut.

As for the netcode, they nailed, confidence IS the main reason, I spend all of this time perfecting timing and executions only for lag to render it utterly useless.
Right now it seems people are choosing characters who perform well in lag due to easy/spammable inputs and that kills the experience, especially since I refuse to do the same after dedicating so much times so I don't HAVE play like that.

You know what would be better than patches and demos... to actually f'king supply your retailers with the game!

Had this pre-ordered months ago with HMV and it STILL hasn't been despatched because they've not had any stock in.

This is a phenomonal game with amazing gameplay, superb visuals and fast, responsive controls. This is a far more enjoyable fighting game than the more well-know Street Fighter IV.

People should get out there and support niche Japanese games like this or else they won't be released over here anymore. Rising Star Games is putting out some superb titles recently so people, if you care about quality software coming to Europe from Japan vote with your wallets and don't wait until this is second hand / in a bargain bin.

Less sales of Call of Duty, Fifa and Battlefield and more sales of DoDonPachi and King of Fighters 13 will do wonders for our games industry!
