Sony PS3 3D Display delayed in Europe

Launches in the US as planned.

The Sony PlayStation 3 3D TV announced at E3 in June has been delayed in Europe.

It was due out in the UK in the autumn alongside a US launch.

The Sony PS3 3D Display is without a release date on Amazon.co.uk. There it costs £410.

It launched in the US as planned earlier this month for $500.

The Simul-view 3D TV is designed to offer cheaper access to stereoscopic visuals.

Its nifty technology allows two players to see different images on the same 24-inch (1920x1080) 3D display. It comes with two pairs of Active Shutter glasses.

Sony was unable to provide us with an updated release date when contacted, or explain the delay.

    Europe ignored by Sony? I don't believe it.

    Its still an awesome use of the tech - is there any way to make it do the same thing on standard 3DTVs?

    Do games specifically have to support this tele? How are the games going to know not to just split the screen?

    Its' a nice piece of kit, but the price is ludicrous.

    Let's hope it arrives here at a cheaper price.

    I'm sure I've seen 3D tells at like double the size for about £100 more. I know which one I'd pick. Sony's EU pricing leaves much to be desired, as usual.

    @DozyKipper

    Games need to support a Side-by-Side 3D mode for this to work. Instead of showing two parts of a 3D image, it displays one scene for each player. There are a few games that already support it, although Black Ops is the only one I can recall at the moment.

    While I agree Europe is a lower priority for Sony, I can't understand why people get so personally offended by it. They are a corporation solely concerned with making money. They couldn't care less about anyone whether they be a European or an American - I don't understand why people ever think otherwise! (Same going for any company).

    Sony decision to delay the appearance in Europe of a popular and widely well received stuff in US, Japan or both.

    Excuse me? Whats new?!!

    Still, I m applauding the features and attempt to introduce a more affordable 3DTV, if this is bit more cheaper, would love to get it for PS3, X360 and movies in 3D!

    @callum9999 People get annoyed because europe is a sony stronghold, more people here choose to buy playstation products than in america but Sony constantly ignores this by releasing our products late and at a considerably higher price.

    Yeah its pricey but is a relatively expensive bit of kit to make...
    You try and find active shutter glasses anywhere for less that £70 and you will see where a good chunk of the £410 has gone!

    And the disparity between UK and US is never as huge as everyone makes out...

    US Price = $500 + TAX = £319 + TAX
    UK price includes tax, so we are paying... £341 + TAX

    £22 does not represent "RIP OFF BRITAIN" to me... go and cry elsewhere.

    If US sales tax is 10% (or 0% is you buy online or Vegas) and ours is 20% I would suggest you take it up with our delightful government and not Amazon, Sony, etc - kinda out of their hands

    The extra £22 )(and more) could be sucked up by currency fluctuations or import duty - depending on how it is classified.

    As to the delay - well Sony should be ashamed - Europe is their premier market and being continually snubbed rankles a bit. At least Vita looks a little more "parity" in its release date.

    @rockin_rob_1 - Well personally speaking, I'd be focussing my companies efforts on territories that aren't doing as well rather than "rewarding" a continent for their commitment to a box!

    Again, Sony is a business and, to the extent they can get away with it without hurting their income, couldn't care less about anyone's feelings.

    And as much as the sort of people who are regulars on here catalogue a series of "snubs" towards Europe, I'd be willing to wager that the average Sony customer is none-the-wiser on the matter.

    Europe is a Sony stronghold, sure, they can try make the same out of America but don't have to completely focus on it..

    Not interested in this anyway.
    But the 3D head-mounted display on the other hand...

    @Timotei

    That picture actually made me guffaw.

    Not giggle, not laugh, but guffaw.

    At work.

    Damn you :)

    But the 3D head-mounted display on the other hand...

    I want the 3D head-mounted display too, but I think I'll wait for the next iteration. The current personal 3D Visor is just 720p.

    @man.the.king
    "The current personal 3D Visor is just 720p."

    For current generation consoles 720p is enough. And personally I have to look hard to see the difference between a bluray on 720p and 1080p displays anyway. Even a DVD played on PS3 on a nice 50'' TV looks quite nice to me; the image is just a bit softer.

    There's hoping that on next-gen consoles, games will be rendered with ridiculous amounts of anti-aliasing on 720p, so they will still look great on the head-mounted display.

    Anyway, the geek in me has some 600 euro burning in his wallet for that head-mounted 3D display :)
