Serious Sam 3 out this summer
For PC and "game consoles".
Serious Sam 3 will launch on PC and game consoles this summer, Texas publisher Devolver Digital has announced.
The series prequel is described as a "glorious throwback to the golden age of first-person shooters where men were men, cover was for amateurs and pulling the trigger made things go boom".
It takes place during Earth's struggle against Mental's invading legions. There are collapsing temples, ancient civilisations and crumbling 22nd century Egyptian cities.
SS3 boasts that it lacks a cover system, and that there is no camping - "it's just you and them. All of them", developer Croteam gushed. Beasties include the Scrapjack, the huge Khnum, Headless Kamikaze, Gnaar and Sirian Werebull.
There are new melee attacks, a 16-player campaign and versus modes, including Deathmatch and Beast Hunt.
"Serious Sam 3 is about pure fun and unfiltered action," Croteam creative boss Davor Hunski said. "We wanted to expand on everything gamers love about the series while adding some genuinely unique new features to really enhance the mayhem Serious Sam is known for."

Hope there's some sort of survival mode for co-op where it just throws more and more waves at you until you eventually die.

Really looking forward to seeing if Croteam have managed to improve on the dire SS2, and these screenshots certainly look nice, if not entirely what I had hoped for from a Serious Sam game. I'd sacrifice graphics fidelity for open vistas and blue skies any time of the day.

The screenshots look lovely but where are the epic swarms of hundreds of baddies?
