Play GT5 on PC "early next year"

Yamauchi makes another promise.

"Early next year", you'll be able to monitor a Gran Turismo 5 race from your PC, and even issue basic commands such as 'enter the pits' or 'overtake'.

Your PS3 game will still need to be running, however, and you can control it with a limited list of commands through a PC web browser.

Gran Turismo 5 creator Kazunori Yamauchi is "sorry to keep you waiting" but hopes to release this feature "early next year", according to Kotaku's translation of his tweet.

We've heard that one before, arf.

Gran Turismo 5 is out now, finally, eventually. Luckily, good things come those people who wait - and Kazunori Yamauchi's fanatical devotion to cars beams as bright as the star of Christmas itself.

Premium cars are better than stardard cars - or are they?

What's the point of this feature?
  • randompanda #2 1 year ago

That headline, once again is slightly misleading. Don't you think?
  • stoopidgreg #3 1 year ago

What is it with EG and misleading headlines??
  • MikkyX #4 1 year ago

Pathetic headline baiting EG, I thought you were better than that.
  • KayJay #5 1 year ago

    Are we talking Online B-Spec?

So I can sit at work and log in so my B-Spec drivers can get a run out.
Is that what we are talking about?

Well that would be kinda cool.
  • Bigmac1910 #6 1 year ago

I don't get it, I love GT5, but get some match making, better shadows etc. going before this absolutely useless feature.
  • Milk #7 1 year ago

"What's the point of this feature?"

Running 24 hour races from work?
  • geox30 #8 1 year ago

I want to isssue commands with my actual car and watch GT5 in my windshield!
  • Emmit_Assassin #9 1 year ago

Bad headline, EG. You're not the Daily Mail FFS.
  • DDevil #10 1 year ago

Well the headline is technically accurate...
  • altitude2k #11 1 year ago

Just looking at the limited set of commands we have available, I think my first race will see me do this:

Overtake, overtake, overtake, overtake, overtake, overtake, overtake, overtake, overtake, overtake, overtake.
  • Shikasama #12 1 year ago

It's not even technically accurate. You aren't playing GT5 on the PC. You are telling your playstation what to do on a PC.
  • Whizzo #13 1 year ago

I'm looking forward to the rewording of the same story to say you can play GT5 on a Kindle next.
  • natashaspice #14 1 year ago

Using Microsoft windows to play my Sony playstation, Well I'm all for it lol. But on a side note a promise is a comfort to a fool when I see it then I'll believe him.

Yet more misleading headlines from Eurogamer. We're steering dangerously close to Kotaku territory now.
  • RodHull #19 1 year ago

In the words of Peter Cook and Chris Morris: why bother?
  • arcam #20 1 year ago

Never have I gone so quickly from excitement to disappointment after clicking the headline in an RSS feed :(
  • DrDamn #21 1 year ago

    @kj66246
Yeah seems very much like B-Spec, which I'm finding strangely compelling and enjoyable myself. Whilst the basics of the game seem quite limited matching this up with your drivers current temperament, car, position etc is a lot more involved. The bonus being he's earning you cash and the prize cars for completing cups etc are different from the A-spec.
  • metamorphic #22 1 year ago

That is NOT the same thing as "playing GT5 on PC", Eurogamer. Stop putting words into his mouth and just making shit up. Shoddy tabloid journalism at its best, eh?
  • 00.00.01 #23 1 year ago

Have always loved the GT-series but have never focussed on B-spec as I don't really feel involved when playing this. However, to be able to complete B-spec whilst working makes it a lot more interesting.
  • Spekingur #24 1 year ago

If GT5 really came out on PC it wouldn't get a very nice score :/
  • Zimo #25 1 year ago

Guessing this has some relation to the firmware security update and online update for GT5 yesterday.
  • Skurmedel #26 1 year ago

As it is a browser, they could've said an iPhone or Android as well. Probably even a old Nokia 3500-series.
  • Arwin #27 1 year ago

Useful to get B-Spec to earn you nice cars (some cool and useful cars you can get easiest/cheapest this way are the Furai Concept, which is a real winner, and the Zonda R), but other than that not terribly exciting to be honest. I enjoy the shorter B-Spec races because they give ample time to look at the other cars and track, but other than that, meh. Still there is an amazing level of depth to B-Spec, in that you can train multiple drivers to do a 24h Le Mans type event at some point, and more importantly you can share your B-Spec driver to other players too. I like that feature, but obviously I like that feature for sharing cars online with friends a lot better.

I'm much, much more excited for the update coming in two weeks that should add laptime leaderboards though (and winning XP and credits from online races) - when that feature is in, I'm happy and GT5 is basically everything I wanted from it. I have been testing the 1.03 patch's options for mechanical damage in online races, and it works beautifully and is very convincing. All the various chat options work a charm too, and the My Lounge feature is very, very useful for racing with friends. And when I'm racing with friends, I really like that everyone can change the settings too.

I do agree that Forza's option to have various assists disabled and damage on and such to increase your XP points and credits won from a race is very elegant, and would have been nice here. Otherwise though, GT5 for me all the way now.
  • Zephro #28 1 year ago

Couldn't care less about the headline.
  • sega #29 1 year ago

Yeah the title there says "Play GT5 on PC" - the article says you can just "monitor" it. Big difference.
  • DrDamn #30 1 year ago

Just a comment about the headline - given it said "early next year" who really thought this was full blown GT5 and not some cut down way of interacting with the game?
  • Beano #31 1 year ago

Seems pointless to me... instead, give us s mechanical damage option in sinple player mode (with added XP points as bonus when it's enabled), leadersboards (!!!) and expanded online modes (matchmaking etc).

Stop wasting time with gimmicky features and get the basics covered first, thanks.
  • Beano #32 1 year ago

... and maybe expand the single player mode with more events and tracks to do, please :)
  • DrDamn #33 1 year ago

    @Beano
The inevitable DLC to add events and tracks will be there soon I would guess. I'd like them to concentrate on the Special Events for the DLC - that is a really strong area for GT5.

Leaderboards will be nice too, but they need to be quite controlled and specific. For example didn't Forza 3 Time Trial leaderboards restrict you to a car/set of cars? I'd like a focused set of leaderboards - particularly for things like licenses and Special events, then cover off Time Trials with specific cars for specific tracks/conditions.
  • Rufus #34 1 year ago

Bloody misleading headlines again EG. Cmon, pull your socks up guys.

It should read "Monitor GT5 from your PC". Simple.
    Edited by Rufus at 08/12/10 @ 10:32
  • Beano #35 1 year ago

@DrDamn : I imagined leaderboards for each race in A-Spec, B-Spec and Special events since these races are mostly car-class specific. That would motivate the player to play allready completed events just to beat friends' times :)
  • mr2ange #36 1 year ago

It sounds like you can play B-Spec through a web browser, which is kinda cool if you wanna nail all those long races
  • DrStrangelove #37 1 year ago

Oh, I can play GT5 on PC. Like I can play Star Wars on my TV with the play and pause buttons of the DVD remote. That's awesome.
  • JBlokeUK #38 1 year ago

Rufus, sack all the EG writers and run this gaff yourself.

"Well the headline is technically accurate... "

No. It should have been "Play GT5 remotely from a PC".
  • Psiloc #43 1 year ago

That headline is a massive dick move. Why not disable my browser back button and change my homepage if you're so up for being spammy?
  • jonsaan #44 1 year ago

A classic good idea overly complicated by PD.
  • thelzdking #45 1 year ago

EG can fuck off if it's going to use cuntish techniques like this.
  • Bursk #46 1 year ago

    News by Robert "Cuntface" Purchese
  • jefranklin18 #47 1 year ago

Now, now. Let's not get personal.

While the title can be argued as misleading, I would have thought that just about everyone knows that PD develops exclusively for Sony and this feature has been announced previously (E3 I seem to recall?). I do tend to be critical at fanboy baiting articles when they arise but personal insults are not necessary.
  • DrDamn #48 1 year ago

    @Beano
"I imagined leaderboards for each race in A-Spec, B-Spec and Special events since these races are mostly car-class specific."

The problem with that is that GT allows you to pimp up you car quite massively - so one Corvette Stingray is not necessarily the same as another - and the races allow you to use these in general. So whilst in gameplay terms this adds another element to the game - i.e. if you are a bit bobbins like me then pimping can help you through, everyone else can challenge themselves with a stock car with crap tyres :) - in terms of leaderboards it all becomes a bit confused. That's what I meant about more focus.

    misleading headline...

Add me to the condeming-the-headline camp.

"Technically accurate" is EXACTLY what tabloid headline writing is all about. Technically accurate, but entirely sensational.
  • man.the.king #53 1 year ago

    @MikkyX

"Pathetic headline baiting EG, I thought you were better than that. "

    What makes you think that?

Nowadays, that is EXACTLY where I think EG's expertise lies in as a site - in pathetic, fanboy-baiting, "quotes-out-of-context" excuses for prose that pass as articles around here.

And trolls like Robert Purchese are right there at the forefront, spearheading this tabloid movement.
