Story-driven BioShock 2 DLC announced
Out this autumn.
2K Games has announced Minerva's Den, a single-player story-driven downloadable add-on for shooter BioShock 2.
BioShock 2's final instalment of DLC introduces new characters, locations and enemies to the underwater city Rapture, and will be released "later this fall" for the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. That's this autumn, to you and me.
"Minerva's Den is a self-contained narrative experience that puts players in the role of an all-new character who has teamed up with Brigid Tenenbaum to unravel a dictator's stranglehold on a key district in the distinctive city under the sea," says the official blurb.
2K president Christoph Hartmann had this to say: "Minerva's Den is a substantial addition that will give players more of what they're looking for: more story, more narrative, more gameplay and more of Rapture.
"The core team has created an exciting product that further enhances the mystery and allure of the world of Rapture. Minerva's Den will be a fitting conclusion to the BioShock 2 saga."
So, where will Minerva's Den take us? To a never before seen district of Rapture, that's where.
You'll "uncover the dark secrets hidden in its founder's past. Wield new high-tech weaponry and a devastating new Plasmid to best the towering threats in Minerva's Den: more dangerous Splicers that command the power of the elements, upgraded Security Bots that throw rockets and lightning bolts, and even a never-before-seen type of Big Daddy".
2K released single-player add-on the Protector Trials, which Christian Donlan reviewed for Eurogamer, two days ago.
We reviewed BioShock 2 in February, and gave it 8/10.

Time to give it a rest or bring it on the mainland.

Not sure I'll download this. I was hoping it would tie deeper into the BioShock 2 storyline, kind of like they did with Opposing Force on the original Half-Life. In OpFor you actually saw Gordon Freeman jump into the teleporter just like you did in Half-Life yourself. So basically, you're re-experiencing an event in HL itself from a different perspective, which I think is cool. They should've done something like this for BioShock 2.

@ andywilkie35, it's a totally different story. Not a part of it. BS2 is already a full game.

It's about as expansive and innovative as putting sugar on cornflakes.

But still better than no SP DLC.

New characters, new gameworld, new gameplay elements, expanded story. What's wrong with that?
Yes the DLC up until now has been pretty lackluster but I can't see any reason to write this off already.

Oh, and that it'll inevitably be late on the PC. Sigh.
"Minerva's Den will be a fitting conclusion to the BioShock 2 saga"
Oh, that's it then? No more DLC?
