Xbox developing TV series based on rapper Nas

No word on Spielberg directing this one.

Microsoft's Xbox Entertainment Studios is developing Street Dreams, a TV series revolving around the life of rapper Nas.

The half-hour show is being produced by Electric City Entertainment, which last year released the Ryan Gosling-fronted crime film The Place Beyond The Pines.

Street Dreams will be set in Nas' neighbourhood of Queensbridge, Long Island, Deadline reported, and loosely follow the musician's rise to fame.

50/50 scriptwriter Jonathan Levine is writing and directing, while Nas will contribute music.

Microsoft is working to launch a slate of original TV shows on Xbox in "early 2014".

The jewel in Microsoft's TV crown will likely be its "premium" Halo: The Television Series, which is being worked on in some capacity by Hollywood director Steven Spielberg.

There were also reports that Microsoft was looking to revive the cancelled series Heroes.
