The top 4 fastest-selling devices ever

Kinect's on top, but what did it beat?

Microsoft's Xbox 360 add-on Kinect is the fastest-selling consumer electronics device ever – we know because Guinness World Records says so.

The controller-free motion-sensing device sold an incredible 10 million units between its 4th November 2010 launch and 3rd January – that's an average of 133,333 units per day.

But which products did Kinect beat to top spot on the fastest-selling list?

Here are the Guinness-endorsed top four best-selling consumer electronics devices ever by units sold per day:

  • Kinect: 133,000 (released 4th November, 2010)
  • iPhone 4: 120,000 (released 24th June, 2010)
  • Wii: 85,000 (released 19th November, 2006)
  • iPad: 50,000 (released 3rd April, 2010)

"When researching this record, we looked at a broad sample of comparable devices and narrowed it down to the five most likely competitors," Gaz Deaves, gaming editor for Guinness World Records, told Eurogamer.

"Of particular interest in the list is the iPhone 4, which narrowly missed out on the record in spite of the fact that it costs at least four times as much as Kinect."

The original iPhone managed around 17,000 sales per day during its launch period. Also missing out are the Nintendo DS, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
