Tencent's new Californian studio will "focus on the development and publishing of AAA titles"

"We're ushering a new era of game culture by combining world-class development with a stress-free work environment."

Chinese megacorp Tencent has launched a new studio in California, USA.

As reported by our pals at GI.biz, the new studio - LightSpeed LA - will be headed by former Rockstar developer, Steve Martin, and will reportedly "focus on the development and publishing of AAA titles".

"We're ushering a new era of game culture by combining world-class development with a stress-free work environment," Martin said. "From day one, our teams will be focused on building the highest caliber games while promoting integrity, proactivity, collaboration, and creativity."

In related news, Tencent studio TiMi is working on a free-to-play Pokémon MOBA named Pokémon Unite. A five-versus-five team battler, it sees squads of players with their own Pokémon battling it out in an arena dotted with control points on various lanes.

As your Pokémon level up and evolve, they'll gain new moves - some unique to Unite which can deal damage to multiple Pokémon nearby. The aim is to hold as many of these as possible, scoring points, before time runs out.
