Steam Family Options now live

Lets families establish their own rules using Steam.

Steam Family Options is now live to all users of the digital platform.

You can use Family Options to limit an account's access to a subset of content and features, including the Steam Store, Library, Community and Friends content. This can be gated by the entry of an additional PIN.

Adults can enable Family Options on their own Steam account if they're worried about kids going nuts with their credit cards.

"We understand every family has its own approach to establishing rules and setting limits when it comes to media, entertainment, and games," Valve said.

"We hope most families talk through these issues together and find ways to agree on what's realistic and fair. It sometimes seems there are as many family policies as there are families. So with Family Options, we're introducing a new way for parents and families to establish their own rules together, using Steam."

You'll find the Family Options in the settings section of the Valve client. An account with Family Options enabled is set to Family View by default, with content that has been restricted unavailable.
