Sony takes on the NES mini with the PlayStation Classic
Final Fantasy 7! Tekken 3! Riiiiiiiidge Racer!
Continuing in the grand old tradition of PlayStation copying everything Nintendo does, Sony today announced its own retro microconsole complete with 20 preloaded games.
The PlayStation Classic will launch on 3rd December and cost £90 or €100.
3rd December is the day PS1 launched in Japan back in 1994 (it eventually arrived here the following September). 3rd December is also very good date to become a Christmas stocking filler.
Sony is keeping the complete list of 20 games to itself right now, although it has promised Final Fantasy 7, Jumping Flash, Ridge Racer Type 4, Tekken 3 and Wild Arms.
Two controllers are included in the box, along with an HDMI cable (always handy). One nice touch is that the disc eject button changes the game.
How micro is micro? By Sony's estimates, the PlayStation Classic is 45 per cent smaller than the original PS1 - note, not the PSone, its laterly-released redesign.
With Nintendo yet to announce the inevitable N64 mini, will you be gathering round the fire to watch Aeries die again this Chrimbo?
