Sega announces Crazy Taxi: City Rush for launch this year

Free-to-play on iOS and Android.

Sega will revive its Crazy Taxi series with a new, free-to-play entry for iOS and Android devices.

Crazy Taxi: City Rush is being worked on by series creator Kenji Kanno and Sonic Jump developer Hardlight Studios, VG247 reports, for release later this year.

"I'm very excited to finally be able to share with you the first news of Crazy Taxi: City Rush," Kanno said. "We are delivering a truly fun game that captures everything our fans love about the original and infusing it with several new features to create an even more fantastic and memorable experience."

The game's teaser trailer reveals a heavy emphasis on customising your ride and tuning up its stats. Otherwise, gameplay will remain largely the same - pick up a passenger and get them to their destination as quickly as possible.

Driving is controlled by using finger touches to change lanes and powerslide around corners.

The original Crazy Taxi is currently free to download on Android and iOS for a limited time to celebrate.

City Rush's first trailer lies below, along with gameplay footage showing off the new art style:
