Schafer's next game due in autumn

Double Fine signs deal with THQ.

THQ has been announced as the publisher for Costume Quest, the next title from Psychonauts developer Tim Schafer and his studio Double Fine.

Costume Quest is an adventure RPG, according to 1UP. The game is set on Halloween night and you play as a trick-or-treater, collecting collect sweets, points, cards, battle stamps and mission assignments as you explore your neighbourhood.

These come into play during Combat Mode, where you are transformed into a giant fighter. Environments include suburban neighbourhoods, malls and a carnival. DF lead animator Tasha Harris came up with the idea.

Costume Quest will be released this autumn as a downloadable title. A second game will follow in early 2011, but all that's known about this one is it's a third-person adventure.

"We wanted to make a big impression with these, our first downloadable games ever," Schafer said. "So we are coming out swinging with two great adventures from two of the most creative minds in the company."
