Rocket Knight Adventures to return

Sparkster coming to XBLA, PSN and Steam.

Konami has announced that classic platformer Rocket Knight Adventures is to make a comeback.

Sparkster will return in a 2.5D platformer for XBLA, PSN and Steam. As reported by 1UP, it's being developed by Climax and is due for a release in 2010.

The game will be set 15 years after the last RKA game, which was made in 1994. Sparkster's gear will be better than ever - his rocket pack will let him zoom around finding hidden areas, for example. He can pull off melee attacks with his sword, and also fire energy balls and beams. Now he can deflect missiles back towards enemies, too.

There are various paths through levels to choose from and a fair few side-scrolling shooter sections. Arcade mode is designed to appeal to hardcore fans who want a real challenge, as you won't be able to save your game. There will be Achievements and leaderboards too. Free Play mode is designed to be more accessible and lets you save your progress and skip between levels.

Has it really been 15 years? Roll on 2010.
