PSP UMD discs not transferable to Vita

"We've not made any announcement about the program in the UK and Europe as yet," a Sony spokesperson told Eurogamer. "We'll let you know as and when that changes."
Original story: PSP owners will not be able to transfer their physical UMD games across to a PS Vita system, Sony has confirmed.
As reported by Kotaku, the UMD Passport programme that lets Japanese Vita owners register UMDs on their PSN accounts and then pay a small fee to re-download them on a Vita won't be available in the US.
That means you'll only be able to play PSP games on your Vita that you originally downloaded via PlayStation Network rather than bought on disc.
No explanation for the decision has was offered.
Sony Europe hasn't confirmed whether the Passport scheme will also be absent on this side of the pond.
