PS4's big new update (the one with folders) goes live

PlayStation 4's big 4.00 update is now live.

The system software update adds folders as well as a refreshed user interface.

There are new system backgrounds, updated system icons and revised pop up notifications and drop down menus that should help make the PS4's UI clearer.

The Quick Menu has been redesigned to now cover only a portion of the screen, so you never have to leave your game.

Usefully, an addition to the Quick Menu is an enhanced Music section, which lets you control Spotify or the USB Music Player without needing to open the Spotify app. This means you can play, pause, skip, shuffle, repeat and save songs while still in the game.

Custom folders (finally!) can be added to the main home screen and your library.

Meanwhile, you can now transfer data, such as games, user info and saves, over a wired LAN connection. You can still re-download, if you fancy it, but using the LAN transfer should be faster and easier.

The 4.00 update adds High Dynamic Range support to all PS4 consoles (as Sony announced last week), including the new slimmer PS4 and the upcoming PS4 Pro. Of course, you need a telly that supports HDR to see the difference.
