PS3 3.15 firmware now mandatory

Sony has said that the previously optional 3.15 firmware update for PS3 is now mandatory.

Writing on the official US blog, PSN director Eric Lempel didn't explain why, just that it is.

As previously reported, firmware 3.15 introduces the option to transfer data between two PS3s along with support for PSP mini playback.

Lempel also noted that the firmware "improves system stability during use of some PlayStation 3 software", which may be the reason Sony would prefer everyone used it rather than just a few.
