Sony introduced PSN subscription service PlayStation Plus a year ago today.

Streamers.

A birthday deal offers three free months of Plus subscription when you buy a year's membership between now and 11th July.

And that's it.

In the past year, PlayStation Plus has offered more than 50 free games, 100 free DLC items (including trash like avatars and themes), 170 discounts, 100 exclusives and early-access items and $800 in savings, according to the US PS blog.

Regional content differs between the US and Europe, but only slightly.

Plus started timidly but gained momentum as the year rolled on. The content available until 6th July, for example, gives free full games Burnout Paradise, Streets of Rage 2 and Magic: The Gathering - Duels of the Planeswalkers. There's a 75 per cent discount for superb puzzle platformer Braid, too, as well as an exclusive demo of the fantastic Beyond Good & Evil HD.

PlayStation Plus costs £39.99 for a 12-month subscription (15 months if you buy during birthday celebrations) or £11.99 for 90 days.
