Only PS3 offers "true generation quality", says Sony's Kaz Hirai

Admits launch was "difficult".

Sony boss man Kaz Hirai has said if you want "true generation quality" from your games, you'd better get a PS3.

As reported by Kotaku, Hirai admitted the PS3's launch period was a "difficult time". He said the company booned it by banging on about multimedia entertainment nonsense, rather than telling consumers the videogames console is actually quite good for playing videogames on.

"However, by refocusing the positioning of PS3 first and foremost as a gaming platfom. we were able to bring and attractive title line-up and achieve a sufficient number of PS3 sales as expected in the fiscal year 2007 holiday season," Hirai stated.

Developers aren't "confused" any more, apparently, so things are looking up. "As PlayStation 3 approaches the second anniversary of its release, the release of PS3 software titles with the true generation quality only available on PS3 is accelerating," said Hirai, citing Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and Rococo McSpuffers 3: Rise of the Coconuts as examples.
