Now Vodafone delays the Xperia Play

Sony Ericsson insists 1st April launch still on.

Vodafone has followed O2's lead and delayed the launch of the Xperia Play in the UK - but Sony Ericsson insists consumers will still be able to buy it tomorrow.

The delay was blamed on a "freight issue" - apparently Sony Ericsson is having trouble getting stock into the UK.

"We contacted out customers who pre-ordered the device yesterday to advise them that Sony Ericsson had informed us that they hadn't been able to ship the devices in for the 1st April launch date to the UK," a Vodafone spokesperson told Eurogamer this morning.

Vodafone said it will contact its customers in the same way it did yesterday afternoon to advise them of the Xperia Play's new release date.

"But I would say we're expecting it to be days rather than weeks," Vodafone added.

Vodafone's delay is the latest in a series of setbacks for the PlayStation phone.

Last week O2 delayed its launch of the device, blaming "software bugs".

In a statement issued this morning Sony Ericsson insisted the Xperia Play will launch tomorrow as planned.

"We can confirm that the Xperia Play handsets are still planned to launch in the UK for 1st April, as originally communicated.

"However, as of today, we have experienced a freight issue that may impact the number of Xperia Plays arriving at some retail outlets. This said, consumers can purchase Xperia Play as of 1st April at a number of stores across the UK."
