Nintendo: UK retailers to set 3DS XL price

UPDATE: Zavvi, Play, ShopTo price tags vary between £179-£249.

UPDATE: Online retailer has opened the 3DS XL price war with an offering of £179.99 for the device's Blue or Black models.

Its the first price we've seen amongst UK retailers. Usual suspects Amazon, HMV and GAME have yet to list the handheld or announce a price point.

ShopTo has gone for £179.84 and offers all three colours. ShopTo claims the devices' recommended retail price is £199, which is contradicted by Zavvi and partner The Hut. There you can buy a 3DS XL for £209.95, which apparently offers a £40 saving from a higher £249.99 RRP.

We'll keep this article update with more prices as they filter in. Let us know any bargains you see in the comments below.

ORIGINAL STORY: Nintendo will once again let UK shops set their own prices for the 3DS XL, as was the case with the original 3DS.

UK retailers "should be going live ASAP" with their prices, Nintendo told Eurogamer this morning.

"As always, the final price to consumers is determined by the retailers, but we have aimed at making the price as reasonable as we can to the consumer," a Nintendo spokesperson said.

The need to drive down the handheld's price was highlighted during this morning's Nintendo Direct conference, when it was announced that the 3DS XL will ship without a power adapter in Europe.

Nintendo of America has announced the 3DS XL will cost $199 in the US. This roughly equates to £128, not much more than the UK price of a standard 3DS.
