Although Microsoft's Xbox Summit in Japan late last week was largely focused on the Japanese, there were a couple of announcements that would make a snug fit just about anywhere in the world. One of these was the news that Namco is developing Ridge Racer 6 for the Xbox 360.

The game will apparently feature online play and downloadable content, although details on everything else remain under wraps, with just a smattering of artwork - featuring some extremely shiny cars - showing up anywhere on the Internet over the weekend.

As we said when we touched on it as part of our overview of the Summit's announcements, there's nothing we've seen to suggest that it's an Xbox 360 exclusive just yet. Indeed, Namco has backed every previous PlayStation system launch - including the PSP - with a Ridge Racer title and only previously ported to other formats. But whatever the thinking behind it, it's terrific news for Xbox owners keen to get their hands on an arcade-minded racing series of considerable pedigree.

Now this writer must lie down. New Ridge Racer, see. Hold me!
