Video Games Live concert to close GDC '06

The Game Developers Conference has announced that it will be closing the final day of this year's conference in San Jose with a Video Games Live concert featuring performances of music from a variety of classic game titles.

The concert will take place in the San Jose Civic Auditorium at 8pm on Friday, March 24th, and will be performed by the Symphony Silicon Valley orchestra and its full chorus.

Among the games whose music will be played by the orchestra are Mario, Zelda, Halo, Metal Gear Solid, Warcraft, Myst, Castlevania, Medal of Honor, Sonic, Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy, along with a retro "Classic Arcade Medley" featuring over 20 games.

It isn't the first time that GDC has featured a concert of videogame music as part of its programme - last year, Final Fantasy composer Nobuo Uematsu conducted Symphony Silicon Valley in a performance of classic tracks from the long-running game series.

"Video Games Live is a milestone in the evolution of games as an art form in world culture," according to GDC director Jamil Moledina. "Featuring VGL at GDC fits in perfectly with our goals of provoking innovation among game creators, and producing ideas that have dramatic reach into the greater entertainment audience."
