Evil Dead back for more

It's a trick. Get an axe.

Not unlike like the Deadites who cause Ash so much pain in the films, Evil Dead games keep popping back up for another go no matter how much we savage them.

So, despite a few fairly lamentable slogs over the years on everything from Dreamcast to Xbox, the series lives again, as THQ prepares to publish Evil Dead Regeneration on PS2, Xbox and PC this summer.

This time, THQ's internal studio Cranky Pants plans to explore what might have happened if Ash had been found, convicted of the murders of his friends, and sent to an institute for the criminally insane.

What they've come up with is the tale of how his psychiatrist Dr. Reinhard goes all "mad scientist", trying to harness the power of the Necronomicon - the book of the dead - and manages to unleash the horrors of the Deadites on the rest of the world instead.

We're guessing people start taking Ash a bit more seriously after that, and you'll pick up with him trying to straighten things out. Again. With Bruce Campbell back to do his voice-over, naturally. So it'll definitely sound groovy if nothing else.
