Namco and Todd McFarlane Productions have named a mysterious background character in the long-running Spawn comic book series, who now looks set to more to the fore on paper and as part of Namco's Spawn: Armageddon game, due out in November on PS2, Xbox and GameCube.

According to the two companies, "Mammon", as the character has been named, is Spawn's confidante in the ongoing conflicts between Heaven and Hell, and will take a bigger role in proceedings from issue 133 of the comic. "Bringing Mammon, his personality and the intense history between Mammon and Spawn to the forefront of the franchise's storyline is something that I've been thinking about since I originally wrote the character into the script," says McFarlane.

"Good, Neutral or Evil, it's safe to say that Spawn fans will have the opportunity to get to know Mammon in much greater detail over the next several comic book episodes and, of course, the new Spawn game."
