Early reports from Japan suggest that Nintendo sold 371,936 Wii consoles during its first two days on sale.

That compares pretty favourably, as you might imagine, to the PlayStation 3's launch sales figures, which Famitsu publisher Enterbrain previously pegged at 88,400.

Interestingly, suggestions that Wii Sports was proving the most popular launch title (it's sold separately in Japan) appear to have been quite right - with Famitsu claiming it sold 176,880 copies.

That put it just a few thousand ahead of Wii Play, which comes bundled with a Wii remote and managed 171,888 copies.

Meanwhile, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess - the most popular US launch title, excluding the bundled Wii Sports - did 145,068 units by Famitsu's estimation. Perhaps they have a special calculator.
