Ancel's Rayman returns

Old flame gets another go.

Rayman is to return to consoles following a break of more than three years, Ubisoft announced this week, with series creator Michel Ancel back at the helm.

The game, yet to receive a full title, is in development at the French developer's Montpelier studio, and will be released on current and next-generation consoles in an unspecified timeframe.

"Rayman is one of the brands that encapsulate Ubisoft's ability to create characters and universes that appeal to all kinds of players," said Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot. "We are expecting this new Rayman video game to sweep players off their feet."

Rayman's last major outing, Hoodlum Havoc, was well received, but appeared to mark the end of the road for the character, as creator Ancel stepped aside to work on critical darling Beyond Good & Evil and latterly King Kong.

However Ancel is known to be very fond of his original creation, speaking of how "refreshing" it was to work in his world when speaking to us earlier in the year.
