Nintendo has announced the latest figures for its Wi-Fi Connection service, revealing that 2 million players have now used it to play DS games online.

The service was launched in November 2005, and since then more than 70 million game sessions have been logged. The most popular online titles include Mario Kart DS, Animal Crossing: Wild World and Metroid Prime Hunters.

Nintendo expects the figures to receive a further boost with the release of games like Star Fox Command, which goes on sale in the US this week and features a four-player online mode.

"Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection continues to set the standard for easy, fun and safe wireless gaming," said Nintendo of America exec George Harrison.

"Our handheld leadership will continue unabated with the launch of Star Fox Command and the anticipation of our upcoming Wi-Fi titles."
