New, non-core RPG Pokémon game, Pokémon Quest, announced

The old Switcheroo.

A new Pokémon game has been announced, in addition to the core-RPG we were expecting, that did indeed turn out to be Pokémon Let's Go! Pikachu and Eevee.

Pokémon Quest is the name, it's "free to start", developed by core-RPG studio Game Freak, it's available to download on Nintendo Switch right now, and is coming to smartphones (Android and iOS) in June.

It features new visuals, such as "Pokécells", which are cute blocky animations of familiar Pokémon.

The game can be controlled entirely from touchscreen, or with regular controls and TV mode on the Switch.

The news comes direct from a press conference held by the Pokémon Company International (TPCI) in Tokyo, Japan today, where the media were promised information on "new ways of playing Pokémon". Eurogamer is in attendance at the conference and will be reporting on any further news as it comes.
