Monster Hunter reveal spikes 3DS sales

This week's Japanese charts in full.

Last week's surprise Monster Hunter 4/Monster Hunter Tri G double whammy reveal has given the 3DS a healthy bump in this week's Japanese sales chart.

With no new software out, the handheld sold 58,837 units last week, up from 49,076 the week before, according to Andriasang's report.

That puts the likely cause of the spike as Nintendo's 3DS showcase last Tuesday, where it announced the aforementioned Monster Hunter titles, as well as a new Fire Emblem, Mario Tennis, Tomodachi Collection and a gaggle of JRPGs.

The PlayStation 3 hung on in second place, but sales were nearly half of what they were last week, coming in at 36,061. The PSP held steady at three, with the Wii enjoying a 50 per cent sales increase at four. Here's the full chart:

The Wii's Dragon Quest Collection, which bundles together the first three game's in Square Enix's perennially popular RPG series onto one disc, topped the software chart by a huge margin, with last week's number one, Tales of Xilia, falling to two with a huge second week sales drop-off.
