Minority Report-style PC Kinect interface

Hacker knocks up a proof-of-concept.

Hackers playing around with Kinect using home-made PC device drivers have already produced a proof-of-concept video showing a multi-touch interface similar to the one Tom Cruise's character uses in Minority Report.

"I thought I'd get the mandatory picture-browsing stuff done so it's out of the way and everybody can focus on more interesting things," the author, floemuc, jokes in his YouTube video notes.

In the 95-second video he can be seen manipulating a stack of images, with Kinect input data shown in a small window-in-window image.

Last week an enterprising driver-smith got Kinect up and running on PC, inviting homebrew developers to crack on and come up with interesting uses for it.

They are, of course, totally unsupported by Microsoft, which was quick to deny that Kinect had been "hacked" - its definition being that the software and hardware for Xbox 360 "have not been modified".

"What has happened is someone has created drivers that allow other devices to interface with the Kinect for Xbox 360. The creation of these drivers, and the use of Kinect for Xbox 360 with other devices, is unsupported," it said.
