Late Shift continues the FMV revival

One to watch.

In 2015 we saw the release of the superb Her Story, a game that fused investigative work with real world footage. In 2016 we had The Bunker, an adventure horror presented with live action footage and played like a point and click. Now, in 2017, we have Late Shift, a cinematic crime thriller that continues the FMV revival.

Kiss or withdraw?

Late Shift, due out on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in April priced £9.99, is described as a "high stakes FMV crime thriller with branching storylines". Here's the setup:

The developers at CtrlMovie said your choices will have consequences in a choose-your-own adventure style game. There are over 180 decision points and seven different conclusions to the game, they added. The story itself is written by Michael R. Johnson, author of the 2009 Sherlock Holmes film.

Questions posed of the player include, do you steal the car or do you run away? And, do you follow orders or sabotage the plan? The game gives you just seconds to decide as the film continues to roll with no pauses and no looping footage.
