iPad has big opening weekend

"It's a game changer," says Jobs.

Apple's iPad has sold over 300,000 units during opening weekend in the US.

And those new owners downloaded more than 1m Apps and around 250,000 books from the sparkly iBookstore.

"It feels great to have the iPad launched into the world - it's going to be a game changer," timidly commented Apple CEO Steve Jobs. "iPad users, on average, downloaded more than three Apps and close to one book within hours of unpacking their new iPad."

The iPad sells from $499 (up to $829) in the US. The iPad will arrive in Europe in late April - no specific date nor price has been set.
