Forthcoming indie shoot 'em up Symphony promises an interesting twist on the rhythm action genre - it takes your favourite music and turns the tunes into levels.

As showcased in the trailer below, the game tasks you with blasting away at wave after wave of enemy vessels which bob, weave and attack in time to whatever song you've inputted.

Your inspiration? Wipe out your foes and you'll free the souls of the composers behind your music library.

It's developed by San Diego indie Empty Clip Studios - whose CV includes fun PSN/WiiWare puzzler Groovin' Blocks - and lands on your usual PC download stores on 6th August.
