Hollow Knight's spooky free expansion Grimm Troupe has a release date

All bugs intentional.

Hollow Knight's next free expansion, Grimm Troupe, will launch on PC on October 26th, developer Team Cherry has announced.

Grimm Troupe is the second free content expansion released for Team Cherry's beautiful, insect-themed Metroidvania game. The first, Hidden Dreams, arrived earlier this year.

The latest expansion is a spooky, Halloween-themed offering that begins when you light the mysterious Nightmare Lantern, and summon the titular Grimm Troupe. "Take part in a twisted ritual that stretches the breadth of the kingdom", says Team Cherry, "and bestows the player with a powerful new ally!"

Grimm Troupe will introduce a new major quest line, new boss fights ("against a dark new foe and a twisted scarlet spectre"), new friendly NPCs and enemies, four new charms, and new music. It also brings a welcome quality-of-life addition in the form of custom Map Markers.

Grimm Troupe will arrive as a free update on Steam and GOG. For DRM Free players, a new version of Hollow Knight featuring the latest expansion will be made available through Humble Bundle at the same time.

Hollow Knight's PS4 and Switch versions, due at some still-unspecified future date, are set to include Grimm Troupe - and presumably Hollow Dreams - at launch.
