Free-to-play Zoo Tycoon Friends announced for PC and Windows Phone

You're having a giraffe.

Microsoft has announced Zoo Tycoon Friends, a free-to-play title for Windows 8 PCs and tablets, plus Windows Phones.

It's being developed by Doritos Crash Course studio Behaviour Interactive and looks similar to the Xbox 360 and Xbox One versions of Zoo Tycoon that launched in November last year.

But there are a few changes - Friends has a pared-back look with simplified, cartoony visuals and there will be at least one in-game currency to buy with real-world money (although why you're paying for zoo equipment with diamonds, who knows?).

FamilyGamerTV's gameplay footage below also reveals what looks like timer-based restrictions to encourage you to pay.

Like the Xbox versions of Zoo Tycoon, gameplay will revolve around interacting with the animals themselves, as well as building your park. Instead of Kinect controls, you'll now be clicking or tapping on your critters to feed/bathe/tell them to stop flinging poo.
