EarthBound hits Wii U today

On eShop at 5pm BST!

This is a pleasant way to end a sweaty Thursday - EarthBound's release date has been announced, and it turns out it's today.

The laid-back SNES classic is coming to the Wii U's Virtual Console at 5pm BST, which is certainly sooner than I'd expected. Originally released in 1994, the HAL developed RPG was produced by Satoru Iwata and has never had an official release in Europe before. Its director Shigesato Itoi went on to produce a couple of sequels, one of which only got an English language update several years after its release thanks to some dedicated fans.

Itoi also voiced the father in the famous Studio Ghibli film My Neighbour Totoro, which is something I definitely knew before just discovering it on Wikipedia a couple of seconds ago.
