Earthbound creator Shigesato Itoi has partnered with Nintendo to make video game-themed clothing.
Specifically, he's designed and mass produced haramaki, i.e. belly warmers.
Don't stress if you don't know what these are. Haramaki are sort of like a mixture between a corset and a sweater, and they apparently used to be a laughably unfashionable item often associated with old folks. According to Itoi's company Hobonichi, they were "once strictly functional underwear that had a grandpa-image similar to yellowing long johns." But then in 2001 Itoi started producing haramaki and seemingly willed them to catch on. (Thanks for the heads up, Tiny Cartridge.)
Now, Itoi has merged his passion for fashion with his video game legacy where he's collaborated with Nintendo once again to manufacture three video game-themed haramaki for Hobonichi's summer catalogue. One design stars Mario, while the other two feature Earthbound's Mr. Saturn.
