EA cans online support for more titles

Def Jam, Godfather, Simpsons and more.

Electronic Arts is to stop providing online support for another batch of old games.

"As background information, the games scheduled for shutdown in March and April 2010 represent less than 0.3 per cent of all peak online players across all EA titles," reads a statement on the company's website.

"Despite some people's perception, there is a lot of behind-the-scenes work involved with keeping these older games up and running. We would rather our hard-working engineering and IT staff focus on keeping a positive experience for the other 99.7 per cent of customers playing our more popular games."

Titles for the chop next month include Def Jam, Godfather and Lord of the Rings: Conquest, plus The Simpsons Game. In April the PS2 and Xbox versions of Burnout 3 will get it, along with a couple more Xbox 1 games and Army of Two for PS3 (but only in Asia).

Here's that list in full:

  • March 16, 2010 Online Service Shutdown
  • Def Jam for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360
  • Godfather for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360
