E3: Ubi working with Spielberg, Jackson

On Tintin project. Plus: Ass Creed 2 movies.

Ubisoft has signed up to work with Peter Jackson and Steven Spielberg on their new Tintin project.

That's according to CEO Yves Guillemot, speaking at the publisher's E3 press conference. "We are still very junior at creating movies. So why not join forces with the best of the best?" Guillemot said.

Ubisoft is already working with James Cameron on the videogame of Avatar, as previously announced. But today Guillemot revealed the company will be involved with Tintin too. It's not yet clear whether that just means Ubi will produce the videogame tie-in - or whether it will be helping to create the movie.

However, during the same conference, Ubi Montreal boss Yannis Mallat revealed they're developing more than 100 shots for the Avatar movie.

Plus, Mallat said, there are plans to produce a series of short films based on the Assassin's Creed 2 universe. They're due to be released this autumn.

And that's just the start of it - in the future Ubi is looking to develop "movies, books and other online experiences" based on its franchises.

"The takeaway here is that Ubisoft is going from a simple developer and publisher to a full, 360 degree content provider," said Mallat.
