Renegade Kid's horror game Cult County reveals first gameplay footage

But its Kickstarter is really struggling.

Last week Dementium and Mutant Mudds developer Renegade Kid launched a Kickstarter for its upcoming first-person horror game, Cult County. Now its revealed the first pre-alpha footage of what the game looks like in action.

It's a very early teaser that doesn't show off any of its mechanics, but studio co-founder Jools Watsham demonstrates its moody lighting and weather effects as he trots around a derelict church in the midst of a dust storm. Even in this early phase its graphics bring to mind a slick mix of Borderlands' cel-shaded love affair with brown crossed with Silent Hill's penchant for hazy, vision-obscuring climates. It's not much to go on, but it's better than nothing and it shows promise.

But does it show enough promise? Well, that's harder to determine, but so far the Cult County Kickstarter offers more tension than the actual game with its piddling crowdfunding campaign having only raised $32,399 of its $580,000 goal after a week. Ouch! Hopefully this early video footage will spark some interest or Renegade Kid will have to sort out another way to get Cult County funded. It has until 2nd May to raise over a half-million dollars.

Cult County is aiming for a May 2015 release on PS4, Xbox One, Wii U, PS3, Vita, PC, Mac and Linux.
