Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker and Code Name: STEAM get new release dates

Hyrule Warriors Amiibo support detailed, Splatoon single-player shown off.

Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker's UK release date is now 2nd January, Nintendo has revealed, a week sooner than the previously-announced 9th January.

The game will feature more than 70 stages, with extra levels unlocked when you complete fiendish optional objectives.

Code Name: STEAM - the new 3DS strategy title from Fire Emblem and Advance Wars developer Intelligent Systems - will meanwhile launch in May 2015.

The new release dates were confirmed this evening in a new Nintendo Direct broadcast - available to view in full below - which also finally confirmed a Zelda: Majora's Mask remake for 3DS and revealed new Mario Kart 8 DLC and Amiibo details.

On the subject of Amiibo, Zelda spin-off Hyrule Warriors will be updated with Amiibo compatibility later this month. Tapping in a Link figurine will unlock a new weapon - the Spinner. Tapping in any other Amiibo will grant you randomly selected materials, weapons or rupees.

3DS platformer Kirby and the Rainbow Paintbrush, due in the second half of 2015, will also include support for the figurines in some way.

In other news, Nintendo has shown off more of its colourful four-on-four multiplayer shooter Splatoon, including its newly-revealed single-player where you fight an army of octopi. The game now has a "second quarter" of 2015 launch date.

And finally, Shigeru Miyamoto's Pikmin short animations will be available to buy from either the 3DS or Wii U eShops from tonight, priced £3.49.
