Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War takes up 40GB more space on next-gen consoles

Including on the Xbox Series S.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War takes up 40GB more space on next-gen consoles, Activision has announced.

Treyarch and Raven's first-person shooter weighs in at 95GB on PlayStation 4 and 93GB on Xbox One. On PlayStation 5 it's 133GB, and on Xbox Series X and S, it's 136GB.

Activision added console players can uninstall specific game mode packs, such as for Campaign or Zombies, to reduce the overall file size.

On PC, multiplayer only is 35GB, whereas it's 82GB for the full game, or 125GB for the full game on ultra graphics. This is significantly less than Activision previously said Black Ops Cold War would take up on PC just last week, so perhaps some optimisation has gone on since then.

PC players can also install specific game mode packs, such as for Campaign and Zombies, to get that file size down.

Remember, these are the file sizes for Black Ops Cold War at launch. The game will grow over time as updates are released. It's also worth noting that Black Ops Cold War is the same size on Xbox Series S as it is on the X, despite comments from Microsoft that suggested S games would have a smaller install size because of smaller resolution texture packages. The S targets a native 1440p resolution as opposed to the 4K the X offers. The Xbox Series S comes with a 512GB SSD.

Meanwhile, pre-loading is also available. On PS4 and Xbox One it's from 5am UK time on 6th November. On PC it's 6pm UK time on 10th November. On next-gen, pre-loading begins when the consoles come out, so 10th November for Xbox Series X and 12th November in the US for PS5. PS5 comes out a week later in the UK.
