Ubi: no Soviet Assault on consoles

World in Conflict expansion is PC-only.

Ubisoft has confirmed what we've suspected for some time now - the console versions of World in Conflict: Soviet Assault have been canned.

An Ubisoft representative told IGN: "A console version of World in Conflict is not planned for release at this time."

The World in Conflict real-time strategy series was picked up by Ubisoft when it bought its developer, Sweden's Massive, after original publisher Sierra got smothered in the Activision Blizzard merger.

The release of the Soviet Assault expansion was due to coincide with a port of both it and the original game to Xbox 360 and PS3, but it seems Ubisoft has other plans for Massive (probably involving the words "Tom Clancy" and "massively multiplayer"). And in any case, it already has its own console RTS, Tom Clancy's EndWar, on the shelves.

Soviet Assault will be released for PC later this month. More on the World in Conflict: Soviet Assault gamepage.
