Veilstone City and how to defeat Gym Leader Maylene in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl

Veilstone City and its Gym Leader Maylene are your next objectives in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, following on from Route 215 in your adventure.

Veilstone City Pokémon, trainers and items
Veilstone City is one of the largest in Sinnoh, with plenty of things to see and do here. For one, Team Galactic has a heavy presence here, with both a Warehouse and a main HQ building sat together in the north of the city.
There's also the Department Store, which has lots of handy items, including TMs, on offer, and a Style Shop for clothing and outfits that let you customise your appearance.
You can also get your Pokémon one massage per day from the lady in a house in the south-west, which raises their Happiness.
In terms of your objectives, you can't access the Warehouse or the main part of the Galactic HQ yet, so your main destination is the Gym. Head there and you'll find Lucas/Dawn waiting for a quick catch-up.
After the Veilstone Gym
After you've won at the Gym (explained below!) Dawn will come up to you again - Team Galactic have stolen her Pokédex! Heal up, then head over to the warehouse to help get it back, where you'll team up with Dawn in a double battle.
You'll be able to get into part of the Galactic Warehouse now - make sure you do! This is where you get the TM for Fly, and having beaten the Gym, you can now use it from your Pokétch to fly back to any town you've already visited, whenever you want. It's very handy!
Your next stop after this is Route 214, to the south!

Veilstone City Gym puzzle solution and how to defeat Gym Leader Maylene
Veilstone Gym has a tricky-looking puzzle to it, but it's quite easy once you know what you need to do: you need to stand next to the wooden panels and walk into them to push them in a certain direction, allowing you to get past through the gaps.
The actual battles in the Gym will be quite easy if you have the right Pokémon with you: all of Maylene's Pokémon are weak to Flying-type attacks, and her second two are weak to Psychic-type as well. The same Flying-type weakness goes for all of the Pokémon the other Gym trainers have, too!
