Levine has "zero desire" for new consoles

BioShock dev happy with what he's got.

BioShock Infinite developer Ken Levine doesn't want Sony and Microsoft to launch new consoles any time soon – despite the Xbox 360 being half a decade old and the PlayStation 3 nearing its fifth birthday.

Echoing comments from THQ core games boss Danny Bilson, the Irrational Games boss said now is not the time for new hardware.

"At this point I have no desire as a developer and zero desire as a gamer to see the next generation come out where I'm sitting right now," said Levine on the latest Irrational Games podcast.

"Connectivity exists today on the platforms, and that's definitely the thing I like in a platform like Steam or something.

"I don't have to worry about that **** - wherever I am, my games are with me, and if I don't have my game with me, I can have it in a few minutes."

Last month Bilson told Eurogamer the launch of new consoles "would be horrible".

"It still costs us a fortune to make games on this platform," he said. "If they're going to up the scale, up the art, up the content, I don't know how to make that and sell it to anybody for under $100 a game. Who wants to do that? It's bad for everybody."

Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft have all refused to discuss their next generation plans.

Sony believes in the PlayStation 3's 10-year life cycle, and Microsoft has likened the release of Xbox 360 motion-sensing add-on Kinect to the launch of a new platform.
