Ratchet & Clank return

Sequel ready later this year

Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando is to be the next instalment in Insomniac’s superb platform series, with a PS2 only release pencilled in for “later this year”, which loosely translated will mean late October/early November.

SCEA officially announced the sequel late last night, with the game picking up from the end of the original (cunning eh?). The loveable duo are kidnapped and whisked away to Bogon, a far off Galaxy, to retrieve a missing prototype for Abercrombie Fizzwidget, the leader of Megacorp.

As players of the original will testify, the game had plenty of gadgets (over 35, we recall), and Going Commando will feature 20 new weapons, with a total of more than 50 different items to discover.

An all new experience system has been introduced, with players able to earn more life containers as they kill more baddies, but as you’d expect, your foe will also grow in strength. In case you’re wondering where the Commando element comes in, it’s a reference to Ratchet’s new upgradeable commando suit, which has five levels of armour.

Sub games will once again be a big part of the proceedings, with space combat and gladiatorial-style rumbles all featuring, as well as plenty of unannounced surprises.

With E3 around the corner, check out our full hands on of the game in a few week’s time.
